Whiplash FAQs Answered by Our Clermont Pain Relief Chiropractor

Auto accidents are common. We know that when someone is in an accident, there's a whole host of problems that can occur due to the injuries sustained in the crash. Each combination of injuries sustained is different. Whiplash is an injury that typically doesn't manifest until days, weeks, or even months after an accident. At South Lake Wellness & Injury Center in Clermont, FL, our team is adept at helping people recover from whiplash.

What are the symptoms of whiplash?

Whiplash is mainly characterized by neck pain and soreness caused by violent and uncontrolled head movement. Whiplash is a commonly sustained in auto accidents. It most likely happened very quickly during the impact, almost where you may not have noticed it.

The neck pain and stiffness that whiplash causes may increase from sharp pain to dull and lengthy aching. You may suffer range-of-motion issues in your neck, have an increase in headaches, experience dizziness, and even slightly blurry vision.

Can whiplash go away on its own?

When people simply try to endure the pain they feel from whiplash, the door is opened for other medical consequences. Eventually the pain does subside, but not for the reasons you think. The surrounding tissues and muscles learn to compensate for the injured areas, and so the pain reduces after time. However, the other symptoms may not go away. You can develop scar tissue over time and if left unresolved for long enough, other complications can occur in the neck and shoulder areas. The muscles that are compensating for an injury won't do so forever and will also develop complications of their own.
